Welcome to the DESC Geography department. We aim to provide the best possible education for all pupils in key stage 3 and for those students who will choose Geography at key stages 4 and 5. We endeavour to provide high quality teaching and effective learning outcomes in a secure, comfortable and exciting environment. Of course, enjoyable lessons are at the heart of our curriculum - as well as encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning.
We aim to develop each pupil to their full potential and provide them with a greater understanding of their environment, and the world at large. We will also help students to acquire and develop the skills to be able to observe, collect, analyse, evaluate and communicate effectively. In particular we will strive to increase each pupil's awareness of:
- Factual information relating to places and environments;
- The nature of physical and human environments;
- Physical and human processes which shape the earth;
- Geographical concepts and frameworks which help to increase our understanding of the world;
- A sense of place and location;
- The processes involved in decision making;
- Current environmental, economic, political and social issues;
- Social and moral issues
